Psalm 122
Back to the Basics #3
"Glad to Go To Church"
This Psalm begins with and ends with the house of the Lord. It is believed this Psalm was written by David during the days when he was bringing back the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem.
I.
A. Discipline of Participation
Luke 4:16 Jesus made it a custom to attend church
Acts 16: 13; 17:2, 10; 18:4, 19 all mention how Paul upon entering a new city would immediately find the place of worship
B. Discipline of Preparation
The importance of preparing yourself to meet God with prayer and spiritual inventory.
C. Discipline of Anticipation
He was thrilled and excited when he found others mentioning going to the house of the Lord. Also, we should attend with the expectation of meeting God and God doing something.
D. Discipline of prayer - verse 6
No joy of attending a church wrecked with division (internally). Pray for the peace of your church and do your part to promote peace.
II. Delight of Regular Church Attendance
David was excited and glad because:
A. Restored Priority
The right people were at the right place – both the ark and the people. Loving God is loving the church. Right priority is God first, but to love God is to love His church.
I love the church because Christ loved the church.
