"The People and Position of Revival"

The People of Revival

Revival is about God’s people. It is not lost people getting saved, that is a result of revival. The reason the church is not experiencing revival is not because of the lost people or the world. Its about God’s people.

The Position of Revival

God begins by saying that the position of His people must be one of humility. This word and humble are synonymous.

We must be broken like a horse before we are going to be useful in the kingdom of God. David learned this in Psalm 51: 17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart O God you will not despise."

Micah 6:8 "What does the Lord require of you? But to do justly, love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."

Matthew 23:11

Publican and Pharisee

Being humble has nothing to do with what you wear, drive, or where you live.

Let’s look at four principles of humility.

But before I give them to you in a positive light, let me share them in a negative light through Rehoboam.

Look at Rehoboam in II Chronicles 9:31. Solomon has died and then later the kingdom was divided with Jeroboam reigning in the North and Rehoboam in the South.

But Rehoboam begins to make mistakes according to II Chronicles 11:17. Then look at 12:1.

His focus was upon himself than God. – verse 1

He begin to strengthening himself and building himself up.

Thus, he becomes unteachable and doesn’t see His need of anything. He can do it all.

He forsook the Word of God – verse 1

He began to do what pleased himself – vs. 2

He was transgressing the law of God.

So, God brought Egypt down to punish them. Look at their army in verse 3.

Then the prophet of God came in verse 5 and in verse 6 things changed. Look at humility in reverse:

His focus was God. – vs. 6

He obeyed the Word of God – vs. 5-6

He begins to live in accordance to the Word of God.

Although it didn’t last, he did do what was right for a while. Which goes to prove that decisions made out of desperate deliverance seldom ever works.

Let’s look at another named Hezekiah. When he begin to reign, the Temple was in a state of desecration and was forsaken. Hezekiah repaired the Temple.

Then in II Kings 20 Isaiah comes to him and tells him he is sick and will not die. So he turns to God and asks to be healed and restore 15 years to his life. God does.

But then something happens. In II Chronicles 32: 25, pride slips in.

This happened with Peter when Jesus said, "All of you are going to be offended and turn away. Simon said, "But not me. I won’t ever leave you." Jesus said, "Before the rooster crows you will have denied me three times."

Corinth became proud of their spiritual gifts.

I Corinthians 13 – you can have faith to move mountains, preach with tongues of angels, or give money to the poor, but don’t have love we are nothing.

Verse 4 – "Love does not puff up."

Hezekiah became prideful of a miracle.

Peter became prideful of his walk with Christ.

Corinth became prideful of their spiritual gifts.

So here are the four elements of humility:

Focus on God instead of self.

Obey the Word of God instead of disobedience.

We live so we please God.

We give God all the glory
